A workshop in lateral thinking geared towards painters of abstraction but equally applicable to all artists. In 1975 Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt created “Oblique Strategies,” a deck of cards with random aphorisms or dilemmas designed to jump start the creative impulse. This workshop employs this and other methodologies around a series of exercises incorporating unconventional materials and processes alongside notions of repetition, limitation, intuitive impulse, and serendipity.
With an emphasis on group discussions and critiques, we will draw upon the external world as a source for exploration towards abstract worlds defined only by the limits of your imagination.
This workshop not only helps you break creative deadlock but invigorates your toolbox and studio practice in ways you may not normally consider.
Tuition is $325. PAAM members receive a 5% discount on tuition.
