Outermost Contra is pleased to announce that October’s dance will be graced with the very special appearance of all time contra caller, Tod Whittemore. Tod has come back to New England and out of retirement after 17 years in of Arizona.  Tod was, and is, a popular and well known contra dance caller throughout the dance world. In Tod’s bag of tricks are contras, mixers, and singing squares.

Amy Larkin, a favorite regional contra musician, will be on fiddle in October accompanied by the playful and spirited piano of Jaqueline Schwab. Jaqueline Schwab is best known for her piano in Ken Burn’s Civil War. She has been the pianist for Bare Necessities, a popular, professional English country dance band for over 30 years. Bare Necessities tours for dances on the national and international level.

Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork needed – if you can walk, you can dance!  All the dances are taught and called. Outermost dances begin with a half hour beginner workshop.

Outermost Contra is one of many contradances on the Cape, and was organized in December of 2014.  The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels.

Community potluck at 6:00

Beginner workshop starts at 7:00.

Dance begins at 7:30

Outermost Contra hosts traditional New England contradances on the Outer Cape with live music every third Friday of each month.
