"It's all about the COLOR" - artwork by Ann DesRoches

at Maser Gallery

Artwork by Ann DesRoches will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from September 27 through October 29, 2015. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception, Sunday, October 11, from 3:00-5:00pm.

Ann DesRoches, who calls herself the "Cape Cod Colorful Artist,” grew up amidst the rural beauty of East Bridgewater. Having been dubbed “Nature Girl” by her 4th grade teacher, it follows that farms, bodies of water, woods and beach scenes have captured her artistic interest all of her life. “In my paintings I like to evoke feelings of a warm, summer day, the tranquility of a beach, or a dreamlike impression of a Cape Cod scene - all using color that captivates,” says Ann.

Ms. DesRoches received her Associates of Fine Arts Degree from Greenfield Community College, in Greenfield Massachusetts. She continued her studies for two more years at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.

In 1989 she suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm just before she was due to be married. Undaunted, she married and went on to have three children, two of which are on the Autism Spectrum. She moved to Cape Cod in August of 1990, and while busy with child-rearing, she still managed to create drawings and paintings for family members, as well as teaching Art History, Kindergarten through 4th grades in the Oakridge and Wing schools in Sandwich. After going through a divorce, and despite the aneurysm’s damage to her memory, processing skills and with lingering weakness on one side of her body, the intrepid artist set up a studio in her home in 2000 and began painting typical Cape Cod scenes, beaches and nature trails. Very slowly her skills started to come back. Starting in 2007, she produced an ongoing series of paintings dedicated to her sons, which she calls the “Autism Series.” It is her hope to finish the Autism Series and have a show exclusively of that work in the near future.

Ann’s artwork has been in numerous galleries throughout Cape Cod over the years: Frames of Reference at Russell's Corner, Sandwich; Callie-Coe Gallery, Mashpee Commons; Studio at Day Hill, formerly in N. Falmouth, and Artisan House, Route 6A , Sandwich. Several of her pieces were displayed in the Pembroke Art Festival and the Women’s Creating Show, and at the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis.

Ann recently joined the Sandwich Artisans, a juried group of artists and craftspeople. She is now teaching Beginner’s Painting at the Sandwich Senior Center, and previously taught at Michael’s Crafts and at venues in Wareham and Hyannis.
