A Tribute to Thomas Linxweiler
Thru November 12, 2017
This selection of artworks by Judith Shahn from the Cape Cod Museum of Art's permanent collection are installed as a tribute to Thomas Linxweiler. Tom was a long-time supporter and docent at the museum, and upon his death, a memorial fund was set up to support the permanent collection. Several of the Judith Shahn silkscreens in this exhibition were framed with those funds. We are very grateful for his extraordinary service and devotion to the museum, and for the generosity of his family and friends.
Truro artist Judith Shahn, was the daughter of social realist painter Ben Shahn. She used serigraphy to render her precisely drawn scenes from everyday life. The flat composition and bright blocks of color which characterize her work-seen, for example, in Still Life with Paints II, are well- suited to the medium.
