From Nurse to Novelist - The Backstory

at Hyannis Public Library

Join us at the Hyannis Public Library on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 5 p. m. when Terri Arthur, award-winning author of the biographical historical novel Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse, presents “From Nurse to Novelist – the Back Story.”  This program, part of the library’s Fall Speaker Series, is free and open to the public.

Fatal Decision is about the legendary British nurse Edith Cavell and based on historical fact.  Cavell’s duties as a healer clashed with the demands of a harsh occupying regime during World War I, plunging her into the dangerous and clandestine world of the Belgian underground, where she became an important link in the rescue of Allied soldiers.

How does a nurse with decades of experience suddenly become an award winning novelist?  Terri Arthur’s talk shifts to the “back story” to reveal why she traded in her stethoscope for a pen and decided to spend six years researching and writing about Edith Cavell.  Ms. Arthur will also discuss and share her writing strategies and tips.

Terri Arthur is a Disaster Nurse volunteer for the American Red Cross, a member of the Boston University Nursing History Archives, the Massachusetts Historical Society, and the American Association of the History of Nursing and the Massachusetts Nursing Association.  A charter member of the Nightingale Society of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Terri Arthur is also known in the UK as “The American Cavellite” and is the only American to be invited to join them in the yearly memorials honoring Edith Cavell.  Ms. Arthur has received five-star customer reviews on amazon.com for Fatal Decision and is the winner of the 2015 Midwest Book Award for Historical Fiction.

Copies of Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse will be available for sale and signing.
