Come on over to the Cotuit Library to sample some great music at our Mini Folk Festival! We’ve lined up some amazing musicians to come perform for you over the course of a weekend, and it’ll be a weekend you don’t want to miss! Free music for the family to enjoy! Our Mini Folk Festival is part of our Royston Nash Music Appreciation Series, supported in part by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Mid Cape Cultural Council, and the Kirkman Trust.

Davis Bates: Saturday 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Davis has been singing and telling stories for over thirty-eight years (longer according to his mom), in schools, libraries, and community settings around New England and across the country. Folk traditions legend Pete Seeger has inspired his work and has, in turn, called Davis “thoughtful, creative, human, and a fantastic storyteller”; Davis’ traditional and participatory style of telling empowers and encourages audiences of all ages to take the stories home with them to share with others, whether he is relating an age old international folktale, or a story about his grandparents. His songs have very singing choruses, which he teaches to his audiences, and are often accompanied by spoons or a dancing wooden lumberjack dog named Bingo.

Catie Flynn & Aaron Mayo: Sunday 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Catie Flynn is a singer songwriter born and raised on Cape Cod. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where she studied vocal performance and music business. Upon graduating from Berklee, Catie moved to Nashville, Tennessee. While in Nashville she toured with an  Americana group and spent countless hours refining her songwriting skills.   Now back on the Cape, Catie can be seen playing locally and around the Northeast region. Catie also teaches private lessons in Chatham, MA. Her solo album "Let Me Down Slow" is available on itunes!

A professional guitarist for over 25 years, Aaron Mayo got his start as a teenager playing lead guitar with The Judy Wallace Group alongside Dick Wetmore and Bruce Abbott, as well as sharing the stage with the great Lou Columbo and Dave McKenna. Aaron studied music at UMass Amherst and Berklee College of Music, performing at jam sessions all over Massachusetts and doing gigs with his jazz quartet This Side Down.  After moving to New York City, Aaron continued to perform doing solo guitar in the subway and in the New York "Antifolk" scene at venues such as the Sidewalk Cafe and the C-Note. In 2000 Aaron returned to Cape Cod and has performed with a variety of artists both onstage and in the studio.

Sparrow Blue: Sunday 7:00 – 8:00 PM

Sparrow Blue, Acoustic Fiddle and Guitar songwriting duo from Eastern Massachusetts, consists of Katy Boc and Todd Nickerson.

Having met in 2014, Katy and Todd began writing songs together after discovering a mutual love for American roots music. It wasn’t long before they began performing as a duo, featuring their original songs. Over the past year, Sparrow Blue has performed at venues such as the Spire Center for the Performing Arts, Club Passim, TOAD Cambridge, Atwoods Tavern, and Rockwood Music Hall. In November of 2015 they released their debut album, Mabel, which Red Line Roots called "a sweet rootsy sound that is clean and crisp as it displays hints of Americana goodness" and South Shore Living called "lilting, dark, and spellbindingly catchy".
