Elinor Freedman

Elinor Freedman, an artist from north of Boston, is a recent Cape Cod washashore where she is inspired by the beauty of the landscape and creative energy of fellow artists. While Ellie has explored a variety of mediums, she is drawn to the vibrancy and immediacy of working with pastel. Using soft pastel on sanded papers or textured boards and acrylic or watercolor underpaintings, Ellie’s pastels show a range of effects that bring her paintings to life. A lifelong learner, Ellie previously studied pastel and watercolor and is continuing to hone her pastel painting technique through myriad inspiring workshops and classes with noted instructors. Ellie has exhibited her work in juried exhibits on Cape Cod, the Boston area, New Hampshire, and Connecticut, as well as online nationally in the 10th Annual 2017 UART Art Exhibition. Her work has been displayed in the Shop at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis, MA, The Artists’ Paintbox Gallery in South Yarmouth, MA, the Holly Fair in Cambridge, MA, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA, the Albion Cultural Exchange in Wakefield, MA, and Eastwind Gallery in Orleans, MA where she is currently represented.

Ellie is a juried artist member of the Cape Cod Art Association and the Pastel Society of America as well as a member of the Yarmouth Art Guild, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Falmouth Art Center, Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Arts Collaborative of Wakefield, the Connecticut Pastel Society, and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod for which she serves as a board member and coordinates a scholarship program for high school students who aspire to careers in the arts. Ellie also serves as a docent and co-facilitator of docent training at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. In 2015 and 2017 she collaborated with a team of docents to curate museum exhibits. The Figure-Changes in Vision explored varied interpretation of the human form by noted Cape Cod artists who are included in the museum’s permanent collection. Pastel: A Diversity of Styles highlighted a century of works in pastel from the museum’s permanent collection and provided historical background of the medium.
