This ongoing exhibit features books, art and artifacts from the life and works of author/naturalist Thornton W. Burgess {1874-1965}, whose stories of Peter Rabbit and friends have taught generations of children lessons of conservation and love of wildlife. Burgess, who was born and grew up in Sandwich on Cape Cod, achieved national and international recognition for his popular books and pioneering conservation work. His legacy is continued through the work of the Thornton W. Burgess Society and its Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich, a non-profit educational organization.
