August Art Show: Two Painters, Two Friends

August Art Show: Two Painters, Two Friends

Presented by Brewster Ladies' Library at Brewster Ladies' Library

Helen Baldwin holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. While at RISD, she studied painting with Bob Hamilton and drawing and printmaking with Herb Fink. As a Principal of Baldwin Design, a graphic design firm she established with her husband, Helen has been involved in both print and environmental design projects for many years. Her design awards include the Art Directors Club of Boston, the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), and several Hatch Awards from the Advertising Club of Boston. She has attended classes with Eileen Smith. As a member of the Creative Arts Center in Chatham she has taken classes with Steve Kennedy and Norma Mutch and has shown her work in several shows at the Center.

Marian Strangfeld graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Studio Art, and from Cambridge College with a M.Ed in Art Education. She also did graduate work in painting at UMass Amherst, and in various workshops and classes at art institutions. Marian’s interest in art and education led to a career as a high school Studio Art teacher and K-12 Art Director in Hopkinton, MA. Under her leadership, Hopkinton High School was named a School of Excellence in the Arts, and represented Massachusetts in the Kennedy Center Creative Schools competition. While teaching in Hopkinton, she also served on the Educators Advisory Board for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Her artistic style is influenced by the traditions of Asian Art, evident in her abstracted compositions and calligraphic brushwork. Her paintings have been recognized in exhibits at the Danforth Museum, Newton Open Studios, and the Beacon Hill Art Walk, earning numerous Juror awards and honors. Marian exhibits locally at the Chatham Creative Arts Center, where she is a member of the faculty, teaching Painting 101 and Sumi-e ink painting. Her paintings can also be seen at the Ray Wiggs Gallery in Provincetown, MA, or on her website at www.marianstrangfeld.com.
