Focus on Photo Gear-Considerations Before You Buy with Ed Grossman

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

As the year-end holidays (and related sales) approach, many photographers dream of new equipment. This session is about going beyond the advertising buzzwords and can help participants in thinking about the following questions:

-How could “gadget x” help me in creating the photographs I want to make?
-If I buy “gizmo y”, how long is the learning curve?
-What other costs might there be post-purchase?
The goal is to help you be a more informed consumer. This presentation will cover:
-Tripods and attachment hardware like arca-swiss plates and "L" brackets
-Mirror-less vs Conventional SLR cameras
-Flash and other light modifiers
-Things to think about before buying into screen calibration
-What video capabilities can do for still photographers - What's 4K anyway?
-Primes, Normals, Zooms, and "fast glass" - the language of lenses
-Fisheye, Pinhole, Lensbaby - Buying into Distortion
-Printers, Papers, Pigments, and Dyes - Photo Finishing at Home
-Q&A - Ask Dr. Gear!
This is a session about types of photo equipment and what they might mean for you. Any mention of specific brands, models, or products will be to illustrate discussion points and shouldn’t be construed as an endorsement or recommendation.
