The Brazilian Cultural Festival

The Brazilian Cultural Festival

at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Brazil’s diverse cultural background has helped boast many celebrations and festivals known around the world, such as the Brazilian Carnival. Celebrating Brazil’s culture & creating a family friendly event that features a varied music program, dance, art, vendors and great food is our way to celebrate this rich culture. Cotuit hopes to make this an annual event with the community’s involvement. The headlining act on their last stop of their national tour, will be Choro das Tres from Sao Paulo. These three lovely sisters are amazing instrumentalists, and are nationally known and respected in Brazil.  The musical style of Choro is a form of urban jazz native to Brazil that shares a similar feel with New Orleans jazz or ragtime or bluegrass. Also featured will be the drum corps from The Berkshire Bateria, a group known throughout New England for their energetic, rhythmic performances. The members of this group have studied extensively with samba masters in Salvadore, Bahia Brazil.  Special guest from Brazil, the pianist-recording-artist-composer, Fabiano de Castro, who brings a jazz styling to his Brazilian music will be performing with Cla Da Bossa Nova that also features Brazilian singer Rayssa Ribiero, playing a mixture of modern Bossa Nova and Samba tunes. Out on the patio to start the evening will be vocalist Dana Ayers with Gabriel Morton on guitar.  Courtesy of The Brazilian Roots Program at The Sturgis Charter School, will be Brazilian lawn games for children.  In addition, there will be a samba dance demonstration & free lessons with Ana Nascimento & Athila Soares.  A free Brazilian food tasting is being donated by The Brazilian Grille, Cape Cod’s premier restaurant for authentic Brazilian cuisine & New England and local merchants will have tables set up with their business information and Artisan crafts. Merchandise will be available to purchase or to discuss their work.
