The Whydah with Martin W. Sandler

The Whydah with Martin W. Sandler

Presented by Cotuit Library at Cotuit Library

Cotuit Library is proud to present local author Martin W. Sandler, who will be speaking about his recent book The Whydah: A Pirate Ship Feared, Wrecked & Found that discusses the history of the famous pirate ship The Whydah.

With the intent of retiring with a boatload of treasure, pirate Black Sam Bellamy commandeered the Whydah and filled it up with treasure.  But in 1717 the ship sank during a storm off the coast of Cape Cod, and had not been found again until 1984 by marine archaeologists. In his book on the matter, written for young  and old alike, Sandler tells the story of the Whydah that is both fun to read and informative.

Martin W. Sandler is a Cotuit resident and the author of more than seventy books for children and adults, focusing on history, and has also written and produced several television series.  He has won five Emmy Awards for the television series he’s written and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize twice for his books.  Some of his best known works are Imprisoned, Lincoln Through the Lens, and Kennedy Through the Lens.
