Big Fish Little Fish - Recent Work by Ric Haynes

Presented by Woodruff's Art Center at Rice Gallery @ Woodruff's Art Center

May 18 - June 25, 2017 Woodruff's Art Center will have on view "Big Fish Little Fish": Recent Work by Ric Haynes. There is an opening reception on Thursday, May 18th from 5:30-7:30pm, and there is an Artist Talk at the gallery on June 11th at 4:00pm.

Explosions of color and whimsy make the walls come alive in this stimulating exhibit. Using inks, watercolors, color pencils, knowledge and imagination, the artist invents intricate renderings that each seem to tell a story. Ric Haynes' work is based on suggestive meanings that may be simultaneously humorous and serious. A good example of one of the pieces in the exhibit that describe the process that he uses can be seen in "Wife's Portrait", 11"x17", watercolor, ink and color pencil, 2017; an early underwater photographer captures the joy that his wife expresses at having her photograph taken and being reunited with her husband, who she has been separated from for a while.

Ric Haynes is originally from York, PA. He now lives in Mashpee. He studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art and graduated with a BFA in 1968. He attended Lesley University and received a Masters in Expressive Art Therapies in 1994. He was awarded a fellowship to Ucross Foundation in Ucross, Wyoming in 2012. His works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art, The Chicago Art Institute, Library of Congress and the Ghetty Foundation, as well as other private and public collections.
