The art of Christine Weisiger will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from August 2 through August 27, 2015. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception, Sunday, August 2, from 3:00-5:00pm.

Christine Weisiger was born in Illinois right after WWII, among the first years of the Baby Boomers.  The Illinois prairies and farms are etched in her memory: fields as flat as a patchwork quilt threaded with slow­moving creeks and rivers outlined in willows.  Her grandmother was an artist and encouraged Christine to paint, introduced her to oils, bought her first studio easel and paid for her art lessons.

Christine graduated from MacMurray College (IL).  After college she studied painting and printmaking in Mexico, earned a Master’s Degree in Education at Antioch­Putney Graduate School and took a job teaching art in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Two years of public school teaching qualified her to teach in the network of international independent schools around the world. She taught for two years in Liberia, West Africa and one in Madrid, Spain before returning to the U.S. Disenchanted with teaching, Christine changed careers and began writing grant proposals and fund­raising in higher education.  She pursued this for 15 years until she retired in 2000 to bicycle across the U.S. with her late husband and friends.

In 2004, Christine and her husband moved to Falmouth where she immediately joined the Falmouth Artists Guild and began studying painting with Terry Dunn.  Along the way she also took workshops with a range of painters including Kevin Shea, Stan Moeller, David Leffel, and Qiang Huang.

“The paintings in this collection, People, Places and Things, reflect three aspects of my recent interests as an artist and as a person: icons from my childhood in the Midwest which persist today; the human face and figure which are always fascinating; and, the interplay of objects, the shadows they cast and the positive and negative shapes they create in relation to each other,” explains Christine. “All these things have meaning to me and, in one way or another, the paintings illustrate my life, my world, my travels, my personality, and my attitudes.”
