"Speak My Language" - Artwork by Grace Hopkins, Joseph Diggs, Jackie Reeves and Richard Neal

Presented by Falmouth Community Television at Unknown

Grace Hopkins was born in Hyannis and grew up splitting time between New York City and Wellfleet.  She attended Friends Seminary in NYC for high school and then Hampshire College in Amherst and graduated with a BFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Of her work, Grace says: “They are photographs, but people think they are paintings. Technically, they are straight photographs taken of actual things that exist in the world and are not manipulated, but they look like and feel like abstract paintings. Emotionally, they are all about painting.”

Joseph Diggs was born in Croix Chapeau, France, to a military family that supported his artistic desires. He graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Painting and recently completed a Masters of Fine Art Degree at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. “To me painting is magic,” explains Joe. I want my work to invoke thoughts and emotions that will take the viewer on a visual journey.”

Canadian-born, Cape Cod-based artist, Jackie Reeves, works with drawing, painting and collage, bringing together figurative and abstract elements. She was raised in Montreal by architect parents and studied design art at Concordia University. Her artistic career began as a professional mural painter for corporate, private and public spaces. In 2010 she earned her MFA in painting at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has since exhibited in solo and group shows throughout Cape Cod and in Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington DC and North Carolina.

Richard Neal is a painter and sculptor working at Chalkboard Studio in Barnstable, Massachusetts. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and has a Master of Fine Arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. He is also a set designer, most recently working at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on the highly acclaimed production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and he was the set foreman and artistic adviser there for the first Cape Cod production of John Logan’s play Red, about the painter, Mark Rothko.
