Barnstable Then and Now, a collaborative program of the Cape Cod Art Association and Barnstable Historical Society is not to be missed! The exhibit will be on display on Tuesday, August 18th from 4:00PM-6:00PM as part of Barnstable Village's sidewalk exhibit. The exhibit will then be on display from August 19th-25th. An exhibit reception will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
Artists were encouraged to paint their own interpretations of the village and harbor from historical photographs or as they see them today. This retrospective and interpretive view of Barnstable Village and Harbor will be inspired by historical photograpers, vignettes from village locals, and from historical accounting from BHS's Nancy Viall Shoemaker on the rich history of Sandy Neck, Barnstable's Seafaring Past and Early Village Happenings. The goal of this program is to encourage community interest and appreciation of both history and art, specifically our local heritage.
