Join author Jake Klim for a fascinating talk about a German submarine attack off Orleans during World War I, the only time the country was hit by enemy fire during the four-year conflict.
Klim’s presentation is based on his book “Attack on Orleans: The World War Submarine Raid on Cape Cod”. On a summer morning in 1918, a new proptotype of German submarine surfaced three miles off Orleans and shelled an unarmed tugboat and its four barges. A handful of the shells fired by the U-boat's deck guns struck Nauset Beach. The 90-minute attack was witnessed by a large crowd of residents and summer visitors seeking relief from a heat wave
Following the talk, visitors may tour the World War I exhibit currently on display across the street at Brooks Academy Museum.
