Outside In: Capturing the Landscape Outdoors and in the Studio with Megan Hinton

Presented by Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) at Provincetown Art Association and Museum

Easel painting outside in oil or acrylic paint requires the work of carrying materials, dealing with the elements of nature, and carrying back wet paintings.  This workshop is for painters who would like to let go of the fuss and formality of plein air painting. Students will meet in a chosen outside location near PAAM to photograph, draw, or paint with water-based medium (watercolor or gouache) on paper for the first part of the morning. The last half of the workshop will reconvene in the studio where students will make larger scale paintings from the preliminary outdoor material. The distance taken from the outdoors into the studio will allow students to recreate, transform, abstract, and re-imagine the original scene and develop new approaches to traditional landscape painting. Some painting experience is recommended but beginning level painters are welcome.

Megan Hinton has been exhibiting her work in New England and beyond for over fifteen years.  She shows her work at The Old Spouter Gallery on Nantucket, MA and The Carver Hill Gallery in Rockland, ME.
