“Nineteenth Century Winemaking”

“Nineteenth Century Winemaking”

at Hyannis Public Library

You are invited to another “Talks & Tunes” program at the Hyannis Public Library on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 6 p. m. to learn about “Nineteenth Century Winemaking” with Kristen Harnisch, author of The Vintner’s Daughter.  This program is free and open to the public.

The Vintner’s Daughter is a sweeping tale of betrayal, retribution, love, and redemption.  In 1895, seventeen-year-old Sara Thibault’s dream is to follow in her father’s footsteps as master winemaker at their family vineyard in France.  Readers are immersed in the rich cultures of the Loire Valley, New York, and Napa as the tenacious heroine flees to America in order to determine her own destiny.

The inspiration for The Vintner’s Daughter, the first in a trilogy, came while Ms. Harnisch was standing at the edge of a vineyard in Vouvray, France.  As she marveled at the pristine rows of chenin blanc grapevines, the limestone caves, the whitewashed winery, and the abandoned watchman’s house, she thought that “this would be the perfect setting for a novel.”

Kristen Harnisch will tell you about her research into the history of winemaking, and how she fashioned her debut novel into an authentically good read.  Ms. Harnisch compares winemaking to writing: “it is an exercise in passion, patience, and perseverance!”

Copies of The Vintner’s Daughter will be available for sale and signing.

"Talks & Tunes" Summer Programs at the Hyannis Public Library are generously sponsored by Baxter's Restaurant, The British Beer Company, Fresh Ketch Seafood 'N Steak, The Greater Hyannis Civic Association, and Spanky's Clam Shack.

After the library program, be sure to stroll over to the Hyannis Village Green to enjoy the weekly performance of great tunes by the Barnstable Town Band. 7 p. m. to dusk.
