“From Nurse to Novelist – the Back Story”

at Hyannis Public Library

You are invited to join us at the Hyannis Public Library for “From Nurse to Novelist – the Back Story” at 6 p. m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 featuring Terri Arthur, RN, BS, MS,  award-winning author of the biographical historical novel Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse.  The book,  based on historical fact, is about the legendary Edith Cavell, a British nurse whose duties as a healer clashed with the demands of a ruthless occupying regime during World War I.  This program, part of the library’s “Talks & Tunes” speaker series, is free and open to the public.

How does a nurse with decades of experience suddenly become an award winning novelist?  Terri Arthur’s talk shifts to the “back story” to reveal why she traded in her stethoscope for a pen and decided to spend six years researching and writing about Edith Cavell.  Ms. Arthur will also discuss the mishaps and miracles she encountered while writing the book and share the tricks and strategies she learned.

Terri Arthur is a Disaster Nurse volunteer for the American Red Cross, a member of the Boston University Nursing History Archives, the Massachusetts Historical Society, and the American Association of the History of Nursing and the Massachusetts Nursing Association.  A charter member of the Nightingale Society of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Terri Arthur is also known in the UK as “The American Cavellite” and is the only American to be invited to join them in the yearly memorials honoring Edith Cavell.  Ms. Arthur has received five-star customer reviews on amazon.com for Fatal Decision and is the winner of the 2015 Midwest Book Award for Historical Fiction.

Copies of Fatal Decision: Edith Cavell WWI Nurse will be available for sale and signing.

"Talks & Tunes" Summer Programs at the Hyannis Public Library are generously sponsored by Baxter's Restaurant, The British Beer Company, Fresh Ketch Seafood 'N Steak, The Greater Hyannis Civic Association, and Spanky's Clam Shack.

After the library talk, be sure to stroll over to the Hyannis Village Green to enjoy the weekly performance of great tunes by the Barnstable Town Band.
