“Honoring a Part of Our Community” Portraits by Robert Goldsborough and Nancy Walbek

“Honoring a Part of Our Community” Portraits by Robert Goldsborough and Nancy Walbek

Presented by Falmouth Community Television at Unknown

Artistic portraits of Neighborhood Falmouth members and volunteers by photographers Robert Goldsborough and Nancy Walbek will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from January 8 through February 3, 2017.

Neighborhood Falmouth is a local non-profit with a goal of keeping Falmouth’s seniors living safely and comfortably in their homes for as long as possible. Seeking a way to honor the elderly demographic of Falmouth and the NF members and volunteers, a planning group decided that a black and white portrait display with accompanying short biographies could be shared with the entire community.  Rob Goldsborough, a well-known Woods Hole photographer, joined the planning group and the project got underway.

Rob photographed each person at their home or in a setting that was meaningful to them.  He got to know them first, then took a variety of photographs.  The framed results were striking and a short biography was written about each. Rob undertook sittings with 14 initial senior citizens (a 15th portrait, by photographer Nancy Walbek, rounds out the exhibit).

A reception was held when the exhibit opened this past July at the Falmouth Public Library for the people in the portraits, their families, other Neighborhood Falmouth members and volunteers, and friends of Rob Goldsborough.  Although no opening reception will be held for the Maser Gallery showing, the public is cordially invited to stop by during exhibit hours. This portrait collection has been rotating around the various libraries and banks in town for the past six months and will continue into 2017. It has been a very meaningful project for both the participants and the community, and the Maser Gallery is honored to display the exhibit for the month of January.

Maser Gallery Exhibit Hours: Sun: 12-8 p.m.; Mon: 2-10 p.m.; Tue-Wed-Thu: 10-10 p.m.; Fri: 10-6 p.m. Sat: Closed
