Bird Carving 101 with Roger Jenks July & August

Bird Carving 101 with Roger Jenks July & August

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Natural History at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Bird Carving 101 with Roger Jenks Mondays, July 6th - August 31st  9:30am-1pm.

An active community volunteer, gardener and naturalist, Roger Jenks began woodcarving as a casual hobby in 1975, shaping caricature and animal figures, learning how to “whittle” from an instruction book he picked up at a used book sale. Over the years he honed his observation skills and acquired more specialized hand and power tools.  An avid birder, he eventually became most interested in carving realistic song birds and shore birds.  In 1994, he began teaching general woodcarving in his home studio but most of his students were primarily interested in carving realistic birds. A few years after he retired to South Yarmouth and joined the Cape Cod Bird Club, he was asked if he would continue his teaching skills in bird carving and he again began to share his knowledge in his home studio.

Join Roger in the scenic Marshview Room at the Museum on Mondays in July and August 9:30am-1pm for this rare opportunity to observe how a simple block of wood transforms into a beautiful bird! Ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit!
