The Subconcious of a Painting: Underpainting with Adam Graham

The Subconcious of a Painting: Underpainting with Adam Graham

Presented by Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) at Provincetown Art Association and Museum

Explore the unseen painting beneath the painting. This workshop will focus on the process and techniques of under-painting to achieve a variety of effects. We will develop the underlying forces that drive the effects on the surface and discuss the subtext and the motive behind the motif. By the end of our four days together, expect to have more power and control you’re your painting.

Adam Graham spent his early years divided between two of the oldest continuous art colonies in the US; summers in Provincetown where his father was a student of Henry Hensche: and the rest of the year in New Orleans where both parents worked as portrait artists on Jackson Square.

He began studying painting under the guidance of his father Bob Graham and from 2000 to 2003 at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown in an independent study program under Lois Griffel. He now paints full time in New Orleans and Provincetown. Graham has been represented in Provincetown by Rice/Polak Gallery since 2009.
