Vistas and Vignettes: A Dialogue with Color and Light Reception

Vistas and Vignettes: A Dialogue with Color and Light Reception

Presented by Addison Art Gallery at Addison Art Gallery

New works by Robert Abele and Cynthia Reid.
Hans Hoffman said, "In nature, light creates the color; in the picture, color creates light." In "Vistas and Vignettes: A Dialog with Color and Light," Abele and Reid both use color to create light -- light on the side of a building, in a field of wildflowers, on the surface of a pond, at the ocean's edge, or on an intimate bird nest.
Painting plein air, Abele responds to the changing effects of light, capturing its nuances and shifts with line and color. His muse is the gentle New England coast.
Influenced by the Southwest light of her adopted Tucson home, Reid uses palette knives to paint the color of light with texture. Her joyful use of color can be seen on barn walls and in vibrant red poppies.
Whether showing the contrasting light on a cottage or a path through the woods, Abele and Reid expressively use the magic of color to create light in both this vistas and vignettes.
