"Weaving Spring & Functional Fiber" art by Ej Mills Brennan

at Falmouth Community Television

The art of Ej Mills Brennan will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from May 31 through June 26, 2015. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception, Sunday, May 31, from 3:00-5:00pm.

Ej Mills Brennan is a multimedia Mashpee artist and a firm believer in the healing power of both music and art.  She enjoys painting with gouache and uses oil based inks when working with multiple-block prints. This show will display her latest 'wet-felted' works from Shetland sheep fleece in addition to various woven works that were created over a span of time.

“I love the peaceful nature of sheep as well as the life energy and warmth of their fleece,” says Ej. “Wet-felting with Shetland fleece has added a fiber palette to my work and I continue to develop ideas by observing how natural fibers react to the somewhat labor intensive process of felting.  I also enjoy the fact that design variations in this process cannot be controlled.”

Ej Mills Brennan holds a master’s degree in Education, a bachelor’s degree in Music and an associate’s degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music. She studied at Cambridge College, UMASS Dartmouth, Berklee College of Music, UMaine Augusta, Portland School of Art (PSA, now Maine College of Art), Cape Cod Community College, and Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing. Attending PSA's Foundation Program as a sculpture major in 1980/81 provided the basis for her continued personal studies as a multimedia artist.

She was a NEFA (New England Foundation of the Arts) grantee and curator for two Northeast Woodland Native Arts Exhibits: Bringing Back the Animals (2010) and Interpretations (2010).  Amongst other projects she has produced two independent CD Releases: Breath of Prayers II - A collection of Solo Native American Flute (1998), and Breath of Prayers III - Original Compositions: Piano, Flutes, and Vocals (2003). Listening samples are available at cdbaby.com.
