Two-Day Portrait Painting Workshop with Copley Master Christopher Zhang

Two-Day Portrait Painting Workshop with Copley Master Christopher Zhang

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is honored to host a workshop with renowned artist and instructor Christopher Zhang. This 2-day portrait workshop with life model will begin each day with a demo followed by students painting the same pose. The instructor will show his style and techniques on canvas and share his experiences such as the values and forms, the light and colors, the brush-strokes and surface. He will focus on each individual’s canvas and give his comments and instructions as well. This workshop is open to all levels and all mediums but may prove challenging for students who have never drawn or painted the human face or figure. Instructor Bio: Christopher graduated with a B.F.A from East China University, and went on to earn an M.F.A at Rhode Island College. In the United States, he studied Western art theories and many original master pieces from the Renaissance to modern ages. He was fascinated by Rembrandt's unique lighting and shading, Velazquez's fluent brushwork, Monet's and Renoir's brilliant coloring, and Ruben's and Delacroix's magnificent composition. This influence is apparent in the bright and delicately detailed quality of his paintings, as well as his great attention to detail, composition, and local colors. The new style generated a powerful visual effect; his work is greatly appreciated and widely collected. Christopher has served as a visiting professor at the University of Connecticut, Harvard University, numerous museums and art associations, and has had solo exhibitions throughout the United States. A distinguished member of the Copley Society of Boston, Christopher is also a signature member of Oil Painters of America and member of the Connecticut Fine Arts Academy and the Mystic Art Association. He is Artist in Residence at the Griffis Art Center and Visiting Professor of Painting and Drawing at Connecticut College. His work has been the subject of a number of one-man shows overseas and in the U.S. including shows at the Sun Cities Museum of Art in Phoenix, Arizona and another at Harvard University, Massachusetts.
