Talk by Curtis Martin - American Whaling in the Age of Sail

Presented by Orleans Historical Society at Orleans Historical Society Meetinghouse Museum

Join Curtis Martin for an introduction to American whaling during its heyday in the nineteenth century. Cape Cod had a long connection with the whaling industry, and several Cape Cod towns not only engaged in shore whaling, but were home ports to deep sea whaling ships as well. Mr. Martin will speak about the many aspects of whaling during the age of sail with an emphasis on New England’s dominance in the industry. An accompanying power-point presentation from the collections of New England’s whaling museums will provide illustrations of the exciting times.

Mr. Martin is a retired political science professor from Merrimack College.
