Expressive Ink Sketchbook

Expressive Ink Sketchbook

Presented by Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) at Provincetown Art Association and Museum

Create an expressive sketchbook that is unique to you by drawing with your feelings. Release yourself into the therapeutic and healing benefits of inviting intuition and serendipity to play a part in your sketchbook imagery. Enjoy a discussion of inspiration sources and participate in various exercises to get started. Sensory prompts (readings, music, sounds, and tactile and visual objects) are provided to ignite imagination. A variety of mark-making tools are available to work with to help you find marks unique to you. Instruction in experiential contour drawing is provided to incorporate simple representational imagery into your expressive images. Using black and white inks, brushes, ink pens and whatever you can make a mark with, spend time experimenting with and creating expressive images quickly. A variety of ink techniques are demonstrated. We will work in stages across several pages, giving images time to transform, layering in subtleties and design dynamics. Also, we will take sketchbooks outside to work, weather permitting, for environmental inspiration. There is a demonstration of refillable technical pen use and care and a discussion of “green” sketchbook practices.
