Learn to see the visual truth about color and landscape in this workshop with Provincetown impressionist John Clayton. Color is the most interesting expression in nature, and it is up to the artist to use all the tools to express this. This plein air class will focus on the basics of color, light and shade, as well as landscape elements. We will learn about mass shape and design. the class will work directly from life. We will be painting different scenes around Falmouth. The students will make simple color studies in order to understand starting a color painting primarily using a painting knife. John will demonstrate and explain this time honored tradition of painting as taught to John by Charles Hawthorne of the Cape School of Art. Students will explore changing light effects and come away with a greater understanding of Light Key. Students will complete at least one painting. John will go over the process of creating a painting step by step to completion, including lost and found edges.
