Artwork by The Mashpee Senior Center Painters will be on display at the Maser Gallery at Falmouth Community Television from April 6 through April 30, 2015. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception, Sunday, April 12, from 3:00-5:00pm. Meet The Mashpee Senior Center Painters: Judith D. Burnett: “Painting is my mental therapy, it helps me relax and see the world and nature in an entirely different way,” says Judith, who is a member of the Cape Cod Art Association. June Canavan: June began pencil work at age 7and went on to crayons, charcoal and oils. For 30 years she was a graphic artist, and now works in acrylics. Anne (“Suzie”) Garvey: From a young age, Anne was always sketching and painting. She regards her artistic endeavors as a hobby that provides many positive life experiences. Cricket George: Cricket began her artistic journey as a crafter. After retiring, she decided to take up painting and enjoys creating landscapes and seascapes which have been exhibited in many area art venues. Gretchen Irving: Gretchen holds a BS from RISD in Art Education and studied Art Therapy at UMass Amherst. After many years of teaching, she moved to the Cape with the intent to master watercolor. Betty Lewandowski: A retired teacher and professor in nine states and two foreign countries, Betty states: “I started using acrylics three years ago, but now I am experimenting with watercolors.” Evelyn Lynch: Evelyn is a retired RN whose creative side led her to artistic pursuits including stained glass. Her interest in painting started while living in Germany years ago and revived after moving to Cape Cod. Her oil and acrylic paintings have been exhibited in many local shows. Mary H. McCormick: Mary is a member of the Falmouth Artists Guild, and also runs an antique business with her husband. Of her watercolors and acrylics she says, “I am fascinated by the range of color in landscapes and seascapes, especially the skies. I want to capture the mood of those colors in my paintings.” Christine O’Neill: Christine is a retired RN who took a drawing course that inspired her to try painting. Having been painting for just over a year, she enjoys bringing “concepts to canvas” and looks forward to developing her own particular style. Harvey Slanskey: Harvey went to the School of Music and Art High School, but he didn’t begin painting until he retired from his practice of Ophthalmology. Father of three and grandfather of six, Harvey states simply “I paint mainly in acrylics.” Marie Syverson: After retiring from nursing in 2008, Marie moved in to her parents’ summer cottage in Falmouth. Her love of arts and crafts projects led to painting. “I love doing watercolors – especially flowers,” Marie explains. Maser Gallery Exhibit Hours: Sunday 12-8 p.m.; Monday 2-10 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10-10 p.m.; Friday 10-6 p.m.
