Love is Blind: Music Inspired by Amy Winehouse

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

June 19 & 20 Presented by Emily Wade Adams & produced by Ruth Condon of Brave Horse Music Amy Winehouse’s music fused old-school jazz, soul, and R&B styles with modern hip-hop and reggae influences.  Her lyrics contrast raw vulnerability with biting wit: she could be at once wistful and detached, coy and brash. Her voice - a sweet & sour blend of Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and a foghorn - was the perfect vehicle to convey such musical and emotional contradictions. "Love is Blind" features a combination of the standards that inspired Ms. Winehouse, a selection of Amy's own compositions, and songs by some of the contemporary artists she influenced. “There is so much depth to her music. You can listen to it over and over again and catch something new each time, whether in her clever lyrics, unique arrangements or unusual - and virtuosic - vocal choices. I admire her for bringing jazz to a new audience.” -Emily Wade Adams Amy Winehouse’s career spanned a short eleven years. During that time, she became an international star, winning multiple GRAMMY awards, three Ivor Novello Awards, a BRIT award for Best Female Solo Artist, and a BRIT nomination for Best British Album in 2007. Tragically, she died in 2011 at the age of 27 of an alcohol overdose.  Emily will be joined by two background vocalists and a 6-piece band.  Friday & Saturday, June 19 & 20
