WORKSHOPS

White Line Woodblock Printing
Suzanne M. Packer
2 Mondays, April 13 and April 20 / 10 am - 2 pm
Members: $130   Non-members: $150
White line woodblock printing is a print method which does not require a printing press or toxic inks. The prints are cut on a single woodblock. The colors, applied with a brush, are watercolors and a spoon is used to transfer the image onto the paper. This is a unique way to create original images of many colors.
The workshop will give a bit of the history of this print method, then cover all of the steps from the initial drawing, through the cutting of the block, applying the paint and pulling the image. Each student will finish the workshop with a print ready to mat and frame. There will be much individual instruction along with demonstrations by Suzanne. Bring a lunch for the lunch break when there will be the sharing of ideas.

Chinese Brush Painting Workshop
Linda Schultz
Saturday & Sunday: June 13 & 14, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
Members: $135  Not-yet members: $155
$35 materials fee payable to instructor*
Nature is the heart of Chinese Brush Painting. It is intended to be a meditative and spontaneous art form, capturing the essence of an image or idea with very little attention to precise details. Come and learn the basics for this meditative art form. Using the “Four Treasures,” the brush, ink stick, ink stone and the paper, you will learn the techniques to create the “Four Gentlemen,” the bamboo, orchid, plum and chrysanthemum. Each “Gentleman” introduces a new stroke or idea and reinforces techniques already learned. Continual demonstrations will be provided throughout the workshop, along with individualized attention.
* Materials fee covers all needed supplies.

Drawing with Multi-Media Workshop
Ann Guiliani
Saturday & Sunday: June 26, 27, 28 / 10 am - 4 pm
Members: $145  Not-yet members: $165
This is a three-day intensive workshop for all levels of ability focusing on the fundamentals of drawing and observational skills, and the use of varied media as a vehicle for self-discovery, self-expression and invention. This multi-media approach is designed to free one’s inhibitions, generate imaginative ideas, and expand on traditional drawing techniques and concepts, all leading to a more skillful and open-ended approach to the creation of works of art. Students may bring in works in progress or visual ideas in need of development as a starting point, as well as inspirational objects of personal interest and selection. The creative process developed during the workshop will be shaped around the use of unconventional tools for drawing, mark-making as a source of graphic imagery, and the dynamics of visual composition and design.
