STRETCH: Scene Study with a twist with Alison Weller

STRETCH: Scene Study with a twist with Alison Weller

Presented by Cape Rep Theatre at Cape Rep Indoor Theatre

Anything goes in this scene study class geared to give experienced actors an opportunity to explore characters they've never had the chance to play or writers they've never had the opportunity to perform. We'll forget about the constraints of casting by age, sex and race and open things up. If you're a woman and want to try your hand at Glengarry Glen Ross, we'll do it. If you've always wanted to take a stab at Shakespeare or Chekhov but feel it won't happen any time soon, we'll dive in. If you're a man who's always wanted to play Blanche, sweet. This eight-week course will give each actor the chance to explore several characters and will culminate in an end-of-season showcase for friends and Cape Rep staff. First class is Tuesday, 7/5 and then it continues on Monday evenings.  All classes are from 6-9 in the Cape House Community Room.  Class runs through August 29 with a showcase of work on that evening. Fee $350

About the Teacher: Alison Weller is an Associate Artist with the Obie award-winning The Civilians who has taught workshops at Colorado College, Kingsborough Community College and Illinois State University.  She has taught Shakespeare and Moliere at The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ, and voice, acting and public speaking at UCSD.  Alison has been affiliated with Cape Rep since 1990.  Over the course of her career, Alison has worked in regional theaters, and on and off Broadway, often finding herself in an enormous dress, armored with a fan.  Last summer, she had a terrific time performing in The Learned Ladies at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's outdoor space, a show the NY Times called "Moliere at his freshest best."  She is excited to bring her enthusiasm for classical theater to students on the Cape.  BA, Harvard, MFA, UCSD.
