"Woman in Gold" Screening & Film Discussion

    Join us for Helen Mirren's much-anticipated newest release - as well as a special hosted discussion of Gustav Klimt's masterpiece ("Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer") -  the very art at the heart of this film. Maria Altmann, an octegenarian Jewish refugee, takes on the Austrian government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family. Woman in Gold is a true story about the recovery of a painting hailed as one of the finest of the 20th century. Following the film, notable speakers will provide a panel discussion on the film.
 
PANEL DISCUSSION:
Claude Cernuschi, Chair of Art History Department at Boston College
Cernuschi's major field of interest surrounds 20th Century art and theory. His research has focused primarily on Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism, with special attention to drawing interdisciplinary parallels between works of art and ideas stemming from fields such as psychology and philosophy. He received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University in 1988. Read More

Jerome J. Forman, author of Graphic History of Antisemitism
Jerome J. Forman has been a trial lawyer for more than 45 years in New Jersey and Massachusetts with a practice that included civil rights law. He has represented victims of discrimination, prejudice, hatred, and abuse in the workplace, places of public accommodation, and in business, social and family relationships. He is the author of Graphic History of Antisemitism (Schiffer Publishing, Ltd., Atglen, PA, 2014)  a study of American and European antisemitism seen though a rare collection of ephemera, including postcards, advertisements, magazines, political cartoons, and pamphlets. He resides on Cape Cod with his wife, Deborah Forman. Read More
