The Provincetown Cultural Council,the Provincetown Public Library, andthe Provincetown Theater Foundation are proud to announcethe world premiere reading of Caligulaand the Three Daggers, a new full-length historical epic by the celebrated Provincetown author andactor, Bragan Thomas. The reading, a benefit for the Provincetown AIDS Memorial, will take place on Wednesday, April 22 at 6PM at the Provincetown Public Library, 356 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA.
Set in the year 39 BC, the play revolves around a conspiracy to assassinate Caligula, Rome's famed decadent Emperor. The conspiracy is masterminded by Caligula's sister, the Lady Agrippina, a womanwho will stop at nothing to gain personal power. Not since Robert Graves wroteI, Claudiushas an English-language author attempted such a detailed re-imagining of ancient Roman life and politics, and this period of Caligula's notorious reign has never before been adapted for the stage. Featuring a cast of twelve, this ambitious work will be presented to the public for the first time in its entirety as a world-premiere reading.
