Cape Cod Art Association is pleased to announce photographer Julia Cumes from Brewster, Massachusetts, as the recipient of the first Art Within Reach grant.
Julia Cumes was selected from a large pool of applicants and will receive a $500 grant to enhance her ability to create work. She will also receive a solo show opportunity at CCAA to display her project, “Invisible Selves,” from March 17-23, 2015. The public is invited to the reception on Friday, March 20th from 6:00-8:00pm.
“Invisible Selves” is an exploration of female identity and experience in the present day. Cumes’ photography is influenced by her experiences growing up in South Africa and her work centered on women and women’s issues.
The Art Within Reach Grant program was founded in 2014 by CCAA Gallery Director, Amy Neill. Funding for this grant was provided through Neill’s successful Photo Audit program at CCAA, as well as through her own fundraising in yoga classes taught in the community. This is the first program of its kind at CCAA and we hope to continue other grants in the future.
