Focus Stacking Photography Workshop with John Klingel

Focus Stacking Photography Workshop with John Klingel

Presented by Cape Cod Art Center at Cape Cod Art Center

There are numerous situations in photography where a DSLR camera provides too small a depth of field. This problem is most obvious when doing close up photography. For example, when photographing a flower the depth of field is usually less than an inch and in macro photography, it can be less than a 10th of an inch. In landscape photography, the DOF issue shows up when trying to get sharp focus on an object close to you as well as sharp focus on distant subjects. With digital photography, we can easily solve these problems with focus stacking where you take a series of photos with different focal points and then combine them to get an amazingly sharp photo from front to back. It’s easy to do and doesn’t require any special equipment. Yet it’s a technique very few photographers, including most very good photographers, don’t use. In this workshop, John Klingel will show you how to manually shoot a series of photos for focus stacking and how to combine the photos in post processing. In addition, he will demonstrate very sophisticated software that automates the process.
