Closing October 10 - Don't Miss Special Exhibit CUT! Costume and the Cinema

Presented by Heritage Museums & Gardens at Heritage Museums & Gardens

From April – October in 2016, visitors will discover the glamour, luxury and artistry of cinematic couture. Five centuries of fashion and style as interpreted by award-winning costume designers and worn by our favorite stars will be on display along with props, movie clips and photos and movie memorabilia.

Costumes play a critical role in the success of any period film. They set the scene and establish authenticity and ambience. They also reveal clues about a character’s status, age, class and wealth as well as his or her role in the story. Such is the case with the 43 costumes featured in the exhibition, CUT! Costume and the Cinema.

Visitors to the exhibit will be transported from Paris to the Caribbean to Venice and beyond through the costumer’s art. Forty three costumes worn by stars including Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Julie Christie, Maggie Smith, Heath Ledger, Ralph Fiennes, Randy Quaid, Minnie Driver, Jude Law, Robert Downey, Jr., Keira Knightley and more are all included in this evocative star-studded exhibition of movie costume excellence. More than 30 characters are represented from some 25 films, all of which have been recognized in the trade and appreciated by the public for the quality of their costumes that evoke eras that have long since passed.

Many of these costumes and their designers have won major awards including Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and BAFTAs from the British Association of Film and Television Arts. As these awards testify, costume is the essential ingredient in the authenticity of a period film. Delight in the sumptuous fabrics, the lavish lace and embroidery and unparalleled craftsmanship and creativity. Bask in the ambiance of big-screen cinema and the allure of famous film stars. An experience like no other awaits visitors to the exhibition CUT! Costume and the Cinema. The exhibition tour is organized by Exhibits Development Group, USA in cooperation with Cosprop, Ltd., London, England.
