Special Techniques in Polymer Clay

Special Techniques in Polymer Clay

Presented by Falmouth Artists Guild at Falmouth Art Center

This class is appropriate for beginners, as well as intermediate clay users who wish to expand their repertoire of techniques. The class will be taught by polymer clay artist Bethany Cooper. Get in on the fun of creating with Polymer Clay, (branded as Fimo, Premo, or Sculpey). This modern clay is an extremely versatile, inexpensive material that can be cured in a home oven--no kiln required. It comes in lots of colors including translucent and metallic varieties, and it has an amazing ability to mimic the look of other materials, including metals, leather, natural stones and much more. It doesn't dry out until cured, and it responds beautifully to texturing, stamping, carving, and modeling. In this class you will learn special techniques every week such as color mixing, skinner blends, mica shifts, mixing inclusions into the clay, mokume gane, cane work, and surface embellishment materials. You will get the chance to try out a wide variety of tools available to enhance your clay tool kit. This class will include demos as well as lots of time to make the clay objects of your choice: small sculpture, beads and pendants, home decor, containers...take it wherever your imagination leads you. You will come away with finished pieces from every class.
