A Gravedigger's Tale - Cemetery Stories

A Gravedigger's Tale - Cemetery Stories

Presented by Sandwich Glass Museum & Historical Society at Sandwich Glass Museum

Join the Sandwich Glass Museum for twilight walking tours of Sandwich's Old Town Cemetery.  The Cemetery, which dates back to 1663 and is located on the banks of Shawme Pond, catures the lives and stories of some of Sandwich's earliest and most influential residents.

The tour will chronicle the evolution of the cemetery in relation to the village of Sandwich with emphasis on the history of the Town. The focus will rest on the fascinating famous and not-so-famous residents of the times who are remembered there as well as the relevance of epitaphs and symbols on the gravestones themselves.  It is an extraordinary place to visit -  who knows what stories lie beneath your feet.

Tours will start at the Sandwich Glass Museum at 129 Main Street, Sandwich and make their way to the Old Town Cemetery, located on Grove Street, not too far from Town Hall Sqaure.  The tour lasts about 1 hour.  Wear comfortable shoes!
