A Tale of Two Artists

A Tale of Two Artists

Presented by Thornton W. Burgess Society at Green Briar Nature Center

This exhibit features the work of two of the most important illustrators of books and stories by Sandwich native and renowned children's author Thornton W. Burgess [1874-1965]. Artists Harrison Cady and Phoebe Erickson each had very different styles to depict the popular Burgess animal characters. Cady's was a colorful, whimsical style, and his depictions have remained the most enduring images of Peter Rabbit, Jimmy Skunk, Reddy Fox and all the creatures of "Old Mother West Wind." Phoebe Erickson gave a more natural and realistic look to the Burgess animal characters. The illustrations on exhibit are part of the Burgess Society's collection. Hours are 10am to 4pm Tuesday through Saturday.
