January Classes at the Cultural Center

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Exploring Watercolor, with Jean Tucker
6 Mondays, Jan. 5-Feb. 9. 9am-noon. In this class we will work from individual objects and concentrate on creating a strong light source. We will gradually move on to simple still life subject matter, landscapes, and perhaps to abstraction, depending on the interests of the participants. I love painting fruit, vegetables, cups, pitchers and other things from the kitchen. These everyday items can make charming paintings. If you want to bring flowers, we will be painting them one at a time and then in groupings. Please bring your special objects to add to the painting session. Suitable for all levels of painters. Cost: $180, $150 for members. Call to register.

Tuesday Night Swing Dance Classes
There are a variety of swing dance styles, including the Jitterbug, East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, and West Coast Swing. The Jitterbug came from a radio announcer covering the 1936 Harvest Moon Ball who said that the dancers looked like “jitterbugs” thanks to the fast and fancy footwork, lifts and aerials. The Jitterbug can be described as single swing (rock step, step, step), perfect for fast swing music. This is the style you will dance to the faster style Swing music, and the pre-cursor to East Coast Swing, also known as triple count swing. Instructor Doug McHugh of Ballroom Bliss has been teaching professionally now for over 14 years. $80 per couple and $48 per single per four-week class: January 6, 13, 20, and February 3. Call 508-394-7100 to register.

Color and Composition with Suzanne M. Packer
Six Wednesdays, January 7-February 11. 9:30am-12:30pm. Create paintings that have visual movement, paintings that have the viewer's eye move across and around the canvas, this is the focus of the class. Learn to develop a composition that works within the plane of the canvas. Learn to use color harmonies, color temperatures, textures and composition to create visual interest. All skill levels are acceptable as there will be much individual instruction and tutoring along with group discussions and critiques. $180/$150 for members of the Cultural Center. (Note: a $40 yearly individual membership will nearly pay for itself with registration for this class.)

Table Francaise
January 7. 6pm. Table Française meets the first Wednesday of every month for adults who enjoy French culture and language, who want to meet other people who enjoy speaking French, eating French food and sipping French wine. Each month, we enjoy a different theme that enhances our love of all things French! Participants should have basic conversation skills. $7 / $5 for members of the Cultural Center. Contact JoAnna at 508-685-6561 or frenchymms@gmail.com for information.
