Cotuit Center for the Arts seeks entries for “Unsafe: Life after 9-11”, a juried exhibition scheduled for March and April of 2016.
Artists working in all media (painting, sculpture, photography, video, found objects, etc.) and writers from all genres (fiction, poetry, nonfiction, etc.) are invited to submit works that convey the impact the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers have had on life in America. Artists are encouraged to write accompanying text that will help elucidate the significance of their works of art. Writers are encouraged to submit objects or documents that provide physical context for their written passages. Passages should be brief enough to fit on wall labels or contained in a volume. Adjudicators are particularly interested in the long-term effects of 9-11 on families and society in general. Short video diaries or remembrances are encouraged. Works that convey the personal and social impact of the tragedy will be preferred. The exhibit will run in tandem with the world premiere of Jim Dalglish’s play Unsafe. Works will be displayed in the upstairs theater exhibition space of the center during the run of the show. Submit high resolution digital images of the works of art and their accompanying descriptions or mov files.
