New Black Eagles Jazz Band, in Concert

at Unknown

Now celebrating their 43nd year, the New Black Eagle Jazz Band, this country's leading exponent of early jazz, will perform many familiar New Orleans favorites plus several exciting new numbers written by members of the band. The Black Eagles have been a fixture on the international jazz scene since 1971, bringing the sounds of traditional New Orleans Jazz to audiences all over the world. Many regard them as the premier band playing in the traditional jazz style—plus ragtime, blues, familiar pop tunes and early swing, music made famous by such jazz greats as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, George Lewis, Kid Ory, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Paul Barbarin and, of course, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band - just to name a few of those who represent the best in the history of New Orleans Jazz. In the words of the N.Y. Times' music critic John Wilson, "the Black Eagles are so far ahead of other traditional bands...there is scarcely any basis for comparison." The Boston-based, Grammy-nominated New Black Eagle Jazz Band performs regularly in New England as well as throughout the U.S. and abroad. The band, has recorded more than 30 albums, appeared recently at the Newport Jazz Festival, and has been featured with the Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony and Scottish National Orchestras
