May 24, 2023 (Provincetown, MA) – The public will have an opportunity to view Mark Adams’s latest artwork, Cormorants on the Wind/Cape Cod Bay, at an open house at The Schoolhouse Gallery on Commercial Street in Provincetown, on Friday, May 26, 5-7 pm.

The piece was unveiled in April at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod as part of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s (AFCC) celebration of Adams as its 2023 Artist of the Year. It will be auctioned off next Thursday, June 1, at the AFCC’s Prelude to Summer Gala at the Hyannisport Club.

“This is an opportunity for friends and collectors to view the artwork Mark made for the gala, and to meet the artist and hear his thoughts about his recent and upcoming work,” said gallery owner Mike Carroll. “And it is a chance to meet the Arts Foundation team and learn more about their organization which is a major driver in creating cultural community and opportunity on Cape Cod.”

At the beginning of this year, the AFCC selected Adams as its second-ever Artist of the Year, recognizing not only his talent, but the impact his work is having in enacting positive change, shaping thought, and creating a deeper sense of connection in our community.

Adams, who lives in Truro and has a studio in Provincetown, is represented by The Schoolhouse Gallery and currently serves as the Center for Coastal Studies scientist/artist-in-residence. Several of his other pieces will be on display during Friday’s open house.

“It’s been wonderful to get to know Mark, not only as an artist, but as someone who cares deeply about the Cape, nature, and the environment. His work is reflective of his sensitivity to how we are all connected to one another and the world around us,” said AFCC Executive Director Julie Wake. “I encourage anyone to stop by The Schoolhouse Gallery to meet Mark, learn more about his creative process, and be inspired by his art and the message it conveys to us all.”
