Dorene Sykes is recognized as a premier photographic artist on Cape Cod. Her artwork explores the harmonious relationship between people and their environment. See her Artist's Statement for insight into what influences her art.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Dorene studied at Germain School of Photography and Hunter College in New York City, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. She transitioned from budget analysis at the United Nations to customer support and marketing management at technology firms in greater Boston, earning an MBA degree as an evening student at Boston University.

In 2004, Dorene settled on Cape Cod and returned to her earlier dream of a career in photography. After freelancing for the Enterprise newspaper, she ran a successful portrait studio business through 2014, specializing in family reunion beach portraits. During this time she earned the title of Certified Professional Photographer.

She is recognized as a Master Artist by the Cape Cod Art Association, an elite group of fewer than 30 visual artists across Cape Cod to earn this distinction. Many of her photographs have won awards in local and national shows. She is also a member of the Falmouth Artists Guild and Professional Photographers of America.

Having recently closed her portrait studio, Dorene is now happily focusing on fine art photography. She enjoys sharing her expertise in a variety of ways: teaching photography classes at Cape Conservatory's Falmouth campus, coaching students privately, speaking at camera clubs, and judging club competitions. She has also been invited to be a juror at local art shows.
