Stef designs and creates stained glass pieces using the copper foil technique, first popularized by Louis Tiffany during the late 1800s. His work includes but is not limited to window panels, side lights, skylights, transoms, cabinet door panels, lamp shades, table tops and picture frames. He is also one of the few glass artists on Cape Cod to do glass restoration and repair work, which he does from his Cummaquid studio.

He is inspired by working with a variety of vibrant colors that seem virtually without limitation. He is challenged to try new ways of doing things, such as making difficult shapes in glass, or repairing antique windows and lamp shades to find the right glass color and texture matches.

Stef’s interest and enthusiasm in stained glass work began in 1977 while vacationing on Cape Cod. It was there, while shopping with his family in Chatham, MA, that he saw a beautiful stained glass sailing ship. He was intrigued by the colors and how it was made. As he quickly learned, one of the unique qualities of working with stained glass as an artistic medium depends, for its beauty, on the transmitted light that illuminates it. And as daylight changes from sunrise to sunset, each piece of glass changes hues.

A full-time Cape Cod resident since 1993, he shares his passion for stained glass with others through adult education classes at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. Stef also teaches high school art students through a “School-to-Career” internship program.

Stef previously was a memnber of the New Jersey Designer Craftsmen and the Northwest Bergen Craft Guild, where he was involved in establishing the first art and craft cooperative in Northern New Jersey and was its first store manager. His current professional affiliations include the Society of Cape Cod Craftsmen and the Artisans’ Guild of Cape Cod.
