Laura Balboni is a classically trained violist, graduate from Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University, native of Easton and Brewster Massachusetts. Because her music career was cut short due to wrist injuries, she saught a different creative outlet, and her natural ability for visual art became her new path. She has studied portraiture with John Kilroy, Pulido studios, at RISD , and MICA. After illustrating two children’s books, Ms. Balboni started painting commissioned portraits, and showing her paintings in pastel and oil at 820 Main Gallery in 2010, and started teaching viola and art at the Cape Cod Conservatory in 2011. In 2016, she won first place in the Creative Arts Center, All Cape Cod Show, 2D, and the William Merit Chase “Excellence in Plein Air Painting”, Nantucket Arts Association honorable mention. Laura is the new artist of the HyArts campus, Hyannis, where she hosts the Cape Cod Art Salon with weekly figurative painting sessions. Laura has most recently begun painting portraits on location of weddings and events.
