Speaker Series: Jazz Talk with Author Bill Milkowski

Award-winning jazz author Bill Milkoswki shares his findings and recollections about artists like Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, Slim Gaillard, Leo “Scat” Watson, and Louis Jordan.

These and other greats from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s who exhibited ebullience and humor on the bandstand or blatantly played to the back row with their charisma are often dismissed or forgotten entirely by jazz critics and historians. But their charms were never lost on Bill, and he devoted a whole book to the subject, entitled, “Swing It! An Annotated History of Jive.”
