Sandy Neck Field Studies Series: Nature Photography on Sandy Neck

Say goodbye to blasé images and hello to an exciting Cape Cod photography adventure. Students will learn how to take full creative control of the digital camera to produce images that are technically correct and beautifully composed along the pristine barrier beaches and marsh lands of Sandy Neck. We will begin with the basics and move into the manual modes using all that the camera has to offer with plenty of field time in the field. We will have rare classroom access to the remote Sandy Neck field station located on the 8,000-acre Barnstable Great Marsh, shoot the sunset with Captain Joe on his boat known as the Horseshoe Crab and kayak* to wildlife havens.  

Sandy Neck is a scenic barrier beach that has been recognized as a significant natural resource and has been identified by The Nature Conservancy as one of the best barrier beach systems remaining in the North Atlantic Coast Ecoregion.  With its diverse and unique wildlife habitat, including migrating dunes, coastal beaches, tidal flats, wetlands, and maritime forests, Sandy Neck is a coastal wilderness experience and a photographer’s dream.

The “golden hours” of photography will determine the schedule for this  4-day photography immersion with plenty of time for lectures, class discussions, and photo critiques. The sunrise, sunset, and overall light will determine when class begins and ends each day.

Space is limited to 10 participants. Digital cameras must have manual modes (P, Av or S, Av or A, M).  Participants will receive detailed instructions upon registration.
